Minutes - Special Meeting April 17, 2006

Call to Order

A special meeting of the Hillsdale Housing Commission was held in the Boardroom of the Hillsdale County Chamber of Commerce on Monday, April 17, 2006, and was called to order at 08:30 a.m. by President Doty.

Roll Call

Office Support

Director Cousino presented a request to contract with former Administrative Assistant Michelle Loren to provide office support through May 31, 2006.  Mr. Cousino recommended that Ms. Loren be paid as a contractor rather than as a Commission employee, at the rate of $12.19 per hour, for approximately 15 hours per week, without benefits.  Commissioners expressed concern over whether the payment arrangement was acceptable to Ms. Loren and Mr. Cousino reported previous discussions in which Ms. Loren agreed to this arrangement.  Following discussion, Commissioner Field, supported by Vice president Hudson, moved to contract with Ms. Loren as recommended.  The motion carried unanimously.

Painting Vacant Units

Mr. Commission introduced Maintenance Supervisor Mark Rich, recently hired to replace Paul Piper.  Mr. Cousino reported that the Maintenance Supervisor painted apartments at Hilltop Apartments, following recent Commission action.  However, Mr. Cousino recommended that the Commission contract the painting and repairs for two upcoming units, as doing so would be both more cost-effective and could potentially positively impact the Commission’s unit turnover score.  Following discussion, Vice president Hudson, supported by Commissioner Batt, moved to contract for painting two vacant units, the total cost not to exceed $1,000.  The motion carried unanimously.

HHC Logo Shirts

Mr. Cousino reported that he was in the process of re-ordering HHC logo shirts.  General discussion ensued.

Commissioner Field, supported by Commissioner Batt, moved to adjourn.  The motion carried unanimously and the meeting adjourned at 08:52 a.m.
